It is known that the students having practical courses such as science and engineering were already in the UK as their course required to access specialist facilities and equipment. Now Prime minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that the students pursuing other courses too can return to their respective universities in the UK for face-to-face teaching from 17th May.
It is mandatory to take a test either through a home or community testing at least one day before the students travel back to their term-time accommodation. Upon arrival, all students and staff are expected to be tested twice a week throughout the summer term and take 3 supervised lateral flow devices (LFD) tests 3 to 4 days apart. All tests to students will be free through government’s offer and University collect services. All students and staff who test positive from an LFD test will need to self-isolate for 10 days, unless they receive a negative PCR test result within 2 days of the LFD test being taken.
Universities Minister Michelle Donelan said: “Our priority from the very start of this pandemic has been to help students complete their courses and graduate as planned which is why I am pleased that the Prime Minister has today confirmed all remaining students can return to in-person teaching from the 17 May as part of Step 3 of the government’s road map.”
